Usual adult dose
Usual adult dose: 50 to 100 mg four times a day with food, or 100 mg modified-release twice a day, usually for 3 to 7 days for a bladder infection. Finish the full course.
Your doctor may give you a different dose. Children's doses depend on weight.
Side effects
Common
- nausea
- loss of appetite
- headache
- dark yellow or brown urine (harmless)
Serious — get help
Stop taking it and see a doctor straight away if you notice:
- cough or breathlessness with fever
- numbness or tingling of hands or feet
- yellow eyes or skin
- severe allergic reaction
Do not take it, or take care, if
- Poor kidney function
- Last weeks of pregnancy (near delivery)
- Babies under 3 months
- G6PD deficiency
