Usual adult dose
Dose is set by your doctor. Usual adult dose for hepatitis B: 0.5 mg once a day on an empty stomach (1 mg if the virus is resistant to lamivudine). Do not stop on your own.
Your doctor may give you a different dose. Children's doses depend on weight.

Serious — get help
Stop taking it and see a doctor straight away if you notice:
- severe flare of hepatitis after stopping
- lactic acidosis (fast breathing
- severe weakness
- stomach pain)
Do not take it, or take care, if
- Kidney disease (dose must be adjusted)
- Untreated HIV infection (test for HIV first)
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (ask your doctor)
